New Galaxy S III OTA Update Removes The “Universal Search” Feature Of The Google Search App

A 27MB Over-The-Air(OTA) update that has been pushed out to the international version of the Galaxy S III removes the local search feature of the Google search app.The update has been labeled as a stability update that brings up the software version to XXBLG6.The local search feature has been removed to avoid any legal troubles from Apple, which claims that the particular feature infringes on their Universal Search patent. The above mentioned feature also caused a temporary ban of the Galaxy Nexus in the US.While the developer community will no doubt release a hack to bring back local search to the phone, the removal of it in the latest OTA update is a bummer.

The update can be downloaded OTA or through Kies.
